Dear Mr. Friedlander,

Thank you so much for organizing the recent dinner which I was privileged to attend.

I certainly agree with you that Anwar Sadat would be a most appropriate recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal.  I looked over the list of people who have received the Medal in the past and I have no doubt but that they would strongly support adding Anwar Sadat to that list. I also am confident that the gentlemen in the delegation to Nasser’s funeral, when we first met the then-Acting President Anwar Sadat, Mr. John McCloy and Mr. Robert Murphy, would be equally enthusiastic about the Congressional Gold Medal being awarded to Anwar Sadat.
