SPARKS is an organization that works to help women (and by extension their families) who suffer from postpartum depression and other mental illnesses.
One in eight new mothers is afflicted with Postpartum Depression (PPD). Its founder, Esther Kenigsberg, a prominent member of the New York community, has taken it upon herself to see to it that no woman and indeed their families should have to suffer the pain, embarrassment and fear of PPD and its related illnesses. SPARKS established a vast network of licensed psychiatrists and social workers who have been specially trained in dealing with the unique issues of women. In addition, numerous doctors, alternative practitioners and nutritionists have joined SPARKS’ team of dedicated professionals to bring the appropriate care and support they deserve, all for a reduced fee. Since its inception, Sparks has assisted over women and families from all across the country who were faced with pre/post natal difficulty; through an array of different programs. Additionally, its Mom Support Groups and Parenting classes provide immediate relief and support to struggling mothers and their families.
When SPARKS saw the need to expand both in New York and nationally, it came to the Friedlander Group. We facilitated a grand opening of their expansion in January 2009. In March 2011, we put on a Congressional Luncheon in their honor.
The SPARKS Appreciation & Tribute Luncheon brought together leaders from the Jewish community, postpartum depression community, and Congress to pay tribute to a visionary organization that helps women and families move past the heartbreak of PPD.
