Jewish Communal Leaders Meet

On Wednesday afternoon, September 17, a group of Jewish community leaders met at the offices of the American Friends of Lubavitch, headed by Rabbi Levi Shemtov, in Washington,D.C., to discuss issues that affect the entire spectrum of Jewish communities. Topics ranged from international matters, such as how developing countries view the State of Israel and the Jewish community, to the government’s provision of resources to parochial and private education.

Participants included David Greenfield, executive vice president of the Sephardic Community Federation, an umbrella group representing the Sephardic community; Ari Felberman, the government relations coordinator of the Village of Kiryas Joel, home of the Satmar community in Orange County, N.Y.; Ezra Friedlander, CEO of The Friedlander Group, a boutique public relations firm representing clients in the public policy arena; Michael Landau, chairman of the West Side COJO and a leader in efforts to forge ties between ambassadors of developing countries to the United Nations and the State of Israel and Jewish communities; and Rabbi Chaskie Rosenberg, a prominent executive in financial services, representing the Bobover community.

The offices of American Friends of Lubavitch are located in the Dupont Circle section of Washington, which is also known as Embassy Row, the home of several foreign embassies.

“The headquarters of American Friends of Lubavitch serves as the international embassy of the Jewish world for its unique focal point as a source of diplomatic service to the Jewish people worldwide, “noted Ezra Friedlander, who helped coordinate the meeting. This is a testament to the precious legacy of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, zt”l, who inspired his shluchim to serve on behalf of acheinu bnei Yisrael. I want to thank Rabbi Shemtov for his quiet, understated manner, with which he uses his considerable roster of relationships across the Jewish communal spectrum on behalf of the respective communities.”
